Repairs/Restorations
Historically, before the production of modern, inexpensive, large-paned plate glass was achieved and prevalent, stained or leaded glass was the only glazing in a window opening separating the indoors from the outdoors. Over the course of decades these windows will need attention in the form of repairs or restorations. Newly constructed stained glass windows live much longer lives before this attention is required because they are typically protected from the elements by plate or insulated glass, and also the lead and cement used today are much more durable and resilient. Then also sometimes accidents happen and the windows simply get broken.
Mr. Hendricks treats a repair as a “surgery”. You will be amazed at the transformation of your broken and/or bulging stained glass window with or without missing pieces or chunks into a fully sound “good as new” window with exact or near matched glass, freshly leaded and cemented for a new lease on life.
Restorations entail a total dismantling of the window and a complete rebuild with new lead. Depending on the level of historical preservation desired the lead may be custom extruded to replicate the original lead and broken painted pieces can be reproduced.
